Quiet Speaker in a Box, New Media Performance, 2007

White MacBook laptop running Max/MSP/Jitter patch, white cardboard box

A digital recording was made of my reading an interview by Sol LeWitt from the book entitled: Recording Conceptual Art, early interviews with Barry, Huebler, Kaltenbach, LeWitt, Sieglaub, Smithson, Weiner by Patricia Norell, edited by Alexander Alberro and Patricia Norell, University of California Press, 2001. The voice recording was used in a Max/MSP/Jitter patch to allow control of action or performance by the box. The action or in other words performance by the box is 'when the room is noisy, the box will be quiet - when the room is silent, the box will speak.' For the show, the box containting the 2007 MacBook laptop running Max/MSP/Jitter patch was placed on a pedestal, in a room, and performed when silence was present.

Performance location: Interface Show, Tecoah Bruce Gallery at the Oliver Art Center, Oakland, California
